Deborah is a newer stylist, with three years in the industry. After a relocation, she has begun working behind the scenes in a support role for several stylists and educators, and jumped at the chance to be a part of SIMC. She firmly believes that learning to be a better ally and service provider for transgender clients makes us better for all of our clients, and that every person deserves a safe place to land. Mia is a veteran of the beauty industry, with over 20 years of experience behind the chair. As a stylist and a transgender woman, Mia has seen from both sides the gaps that exist in our industry when it comes to interacting with and servicing transgender clients. She's a firm believer in love and positive reinforcement, and with those tools and the involvement of each one of the professionals and clients that make use of SIMC, she truly believes we can change the world one chair at a time. Kristen Cannon Mason

Marion lives in Cleveland, Ohio where she was born and raised. She is a multi-cultural cosmetologist who specializes in natural curls. In addition to being licensed in cosmetology, she has a BA in Graphic Design. Her spare time is spent making art and pursuing various nerdy pastimes. She can be reached at

Executive Assistant/Director of Rules Enforcement

Cosmetology came to Laurie as a later incarnation of her business career, but she couldn't be more happy she found it. From cuts, to specialty color like balayage and color corrections, there's not much in this industry she isn't passionate about. Emily Claire Smith is the wife of Mia Catherine Smith and mother to two awesome boys.  She is the Assistant Controller at a local community bank in her home state of North Carolina.  Emily has been involved in the LGBTQ community since her college days at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  She is an avid animal lover, motorcyclist and human rights activist.  Emily loves spending time with her wife, boys and their three fur babies.
